BPS Communication interface changelog

Since Bin Picking Studio (BPS) version 1.6.0 and the Robot module of the same version, the vision controller and the robot controller communicate through the new flexible communication interface.

One of its advantages is backward compatibility. The Robot module of version 1.6.0 works with all later releases of Bin Picking Studio. You only need to update the Robot module if you need a function of a newer communication interface version (used in a newer Robot module), or if a patch fixes a bug.

BPS and the Robot module are not compatible in the other direction. A Robot module that uses a newer communication interface does not work with an older release of Bin Picking Studio.

Right after it connects, the Robot module sends its brand ID. The brand ID tells the vision controller which version of the communication interface the Robot module uses (for example ABB_IRB/1.12.0XXXXXXXXXX). If the vision controller does not support the version, it closes the connection.

The Robot modules for different robot brands can support different highest versions of the communication interface. Download the latest Robot module for your robot brand from the official Photoneo website.

The highest version of the communication interface for each robot brand:

  • v1.12.0: ABB (IRC5, OmniCore), Estun, FANUC, Kassow Robots, Kawasaki, KUKA KRC, Techman Robot, Universal Robots (PolyScope 5, PolyScope X), Yaskawa

  • v1.11.0: Doosan, Hyundai Robotics

  • v1.6.0: KUKA LBR iiwa, Stäubli

Version 1.12.0

Released with Bin Picking Studio 1.12.0.

Changes in the communication interface v1.12.0:

  • Info data are sent with a key - every value is sent as a separate Info data item, identified by its operation number. The Robot module no longer depends on the position of the value in the response.

  • Neural network label (key 7) is added to the response of the Trajectory request and the Object pose request.

  • Get vision system status request, Get running solution request and Save automatic calibration result request return their values as keyed Info data.

  • For more information about the new format, see Info data. Robot modules of older versions still work without any change.

Version 1.11.0

Released with Bin Picking Studio 1.11.0.

New in the communication interface v1.11.0:

  • Change bounding box request

  • Communication check request

  • For more information about the new requests, see action requests.

Note: There is no communication interface v1.10.0. Robot modules of version 1.10.x use the communication interface v1.9.0.

Version 1.9.0

Released with the Documentation Center.

New in the communication interface v1.9.0:

  • Trigger scan request

  • Localize on last scan request

  • For more information about the new requests, see action requests.

Version 1.8.0

Released with Bin Picking Studio 1.8.0.

New in the communication interface v1.8.0:

  • Get vision system status request

  • Start automatic calibration request

  • Save automatic calibration result request

  • Stop automatic calibration request For more information about the new requests, see action requests.

Version 1.7.0

Released with Bin Picking Studio 1.7.0.

New in the communication interface v1.7.0:

  • Change scene state request For more information about the request, see action requests.

Version 1.6.0

The first version of the flexible communication interface. It was released together with Bin Picking Studio v1.6.0 and the Robot modules of the same version.
